Scholarship Opportunities at NUVO College of Cosmetology
At Moored Beauty Schools, we believe education should feel possible for students who are passionate about building a future in the beauty industry. That’s why we’re excited to share new scholarship opportunities available specifically for students attending the NUVO College of Cosmetology campus in Muskegon.
Beginning in Fall 2026, the Muskegon Area Promise Scholarship program is expanding in a major way — helping more students qualify for financial assistance while pursuing cosmetology education at NUVO.
One of the biggest changes? Eligible students can now qualify regardless of their high school GPA.
If you’ve been considering beauty school but worried about the cost or eligibility requirements, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
Big Changes Are Coming to the Muskegon Area Promise
The Muskegon Area Promise is a community initiative designed to help local students continue their education after high school by providing financial assistance for approved colleges, trade programs, and career training programs.
Recently, the Promise Zone Board approved major updates that expand access for more students throughout the Muskegon area.
Starting Fall 2026:
- NUVO College of Cosmetology students may qualify with any high school GPA
- The GPA adjustment is retroactive for eligible graduates from the Class of 2015 through today
- More students may now have access to scholarship funding and support services
This expansion was designed to better match partner institution enrollment requirements and remove barriers that may have prevented students from pursuing education in the past.
For future beauty professionals, this is exciting news.
What Does the Scholarship Help Cover?
The Muskegon Area Promise Scholarship is designed to help students with more than just tuition.
After federal, state, and institutional aid is applied, the Promise may help cover additional education-related expenses such as:
- Tuition and fees
- Books and classroom supplies
- Equipment required for training
- Transportation expenses
- Housing and food costs
- Licensing and certification fees
- Childcare or dependent care
- Computer expenses for school
For NUVO students specifically, the scholarship includes:
- No annual cap for students who complete the FAFSA
- Up to $2,000 annually without FAFSA
- Books, supplies, and equipment allowances
- Additional stipends throughout the school year
This support can make a huge difference for students trying to balance school, work, family responsibilities, and everyday expenses.
More Than Financial Support
One of the most exciting parts of this expansion is the added student support available on campus.
The Muskegon Area Promise is investing in student success by expanding resources for eligible schools, including NUVO College of Cosmetology.
Students may have access to:
- Success coaches on campus
- Career and college readiness support
- Mentorship opportunities
- Work-based learning resources
- Additional outreach and student engagement support
The goal is to help students feel supported not only financially, but personally and professionally throughout their education journey.
Who May Be Eligible?
Students may qualify for the Muskegon Area Promise if they:
- Live within the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District boundaries
- Graduate from an eligible high school or homeschool program
- Complete the FAFSA annually for qualifying programs
- Enroll at an approved institution like NUVO College of Cosmetology
One of the most important updates is that NUVO students no longer need to meet a GPA minimum to potentially qualify.
This opens the door for more students to pursue careers in cosmetology, esthetics, nail technology, and other beauty-focused paths.
Flexible Options for Students
Life doesn’t always follow a perfect timeline, and the Muskegon Area Promise recognizes that.
Eligible students can:
- Attend full-time or part-time
- Use their scholarship without a strict time limit after high school graduation
- Continue receiving support until they complete a credential or degree
This flexibility can be especially helpful for students returning to school, changing careers, or balancing other responsibilities while pursuing their education.
Why This Matters for Future Beauty Professionals
The beauty industry offers opportunities to build creativity, confidence, and long-term career skills. Whether you dream of working behind the chair, specializing in skincare, becoming a nail tech, or eventually owning your own business, cosmetology education can help you take that first step.
But for many students, financial concerns can make higher education feel out of reach.
Programs like the Muskegon Area Promise help create more accessible pathways for students who are ready to invest in their future.
Removing GPA restrictions also sends an important message: students deserve opportunities to grow, learn, and succeed — no matter what their high school experience looked like.
